Tulsa, OK – The Red Dirt collaboration you didn’t know you needed. Get ready to blast off with "Oklahoma Space Program," a new single from songwriters Steve Hamby, Zac Wenzel, Gus Burns, and Jake Marlin, hitting airwaves and playlists on April 20, 2025. Clocking in at a cosmic 4 minutes and 20 seconds, this track promises a high-flying shuffle in the key of G at 105 BPM, featuring vocal contributions from all four writers and a stellar lineup of Oklahoma talent.
The song boasts instrumentation from Grammy-nominated pianist John Fullbright, Hosty on guitar and lap steel, Ryan "Danger" McCall of B.C. & The Big Rig on guitar and slide guitar, and Steve Hamby pulling triple duty on guitars, bass, and drums. With its infectious 2/4 shuffle rhythm and lyrics inviting listeners to "join the Oklahoma Space Program, rated highest club in town," the track is already generating buzz. Dan Jackson, former tour manager of The Great Divide, praised it, saying, "That song is the next 'Boys From Oklahoma.'"
Born at the most recent songwriter retreat hosted by Bryce Dicus—organizer of the Hometown Writers' Round at The Hunt Club in Tulsa—"Oklahoma Space Program" captures the free-spirited camaraderie of its creators. Steve Hamby and Zac Wenzel, fresh off a month-long residency at The Mercury Lounge in Tulsa with their side project The Road Runners, teamed up with Gus Burns and Jake Marlin to craft this ode to good vibes and little green spaceships.
The single has already landed on the radar of K.U.S.H. 1600 Program Director Hugh Foley, who added it to the station’s rotation ahead of its official release. Fans can catch all four songwriters performing live at Bob Childers' Gypsy Cafe, the annual songwriter festival hosted by the Red Dirt Relief Fund in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on May 4, 2025.
With lyrics like "Tulsa we’ve got a problem / It’s getting lonely up here" and an open invitation to "wear what you like," "Oklahoma Space Program" is a rollicking, tongue-in-cheek anthem for anyone ready to join the ride—and maybe never come down.
